London Fashion Week- Day 5

Tuesday 19th

Nicole Farhi

Sticking purely to monochrome, Nicole Farhi's newest collection is the epitome of modern.
It is office wear meets sports luxe with a monochromatic colours, making use of grey tones not just the black and whte colours.

The creative director at Nicole Farhi said "The idea of the collection isn't particularly thematic, but we've been unpicking the DNA. It's a personality. "

Its almost as if the designers ahve picked out the items we all steal from our boyfriends wardrobes, and created them in womens sizing, tweaking them to make them more flattering on our frames, while reaining the comfort we find in the menswear pieces. Its tailored but not quite androgynous but not feminine either, somewhere in the middle.

"It's not fashion fashion. It's smart in a relaxed way. Let's loosen up,"

London Fashion Week Day 4

Monday 18th
Louise Gray

Loud and proud
Crazy  bright prints adorned these garments, bubbles and stripes in clashing alternate colours.

As well as the colours, some of the materials were a little alternative, one garment appeared to have a miniature silver flight pillow attached as a brooch.

One model appeared to be wearing pretty green patterned wellies while others seemed to be wearing polystyrene balls dangling form their ears.

“I’m into recycling – it’s a nice concept,” the designer smiled after the show.

Yet on top of the crazy accessories, the outfits themselves were very carefully constructed and tailored.

Erdem

Erdem went for a darker theme, choosing hues of darker navy blues. They still opted for a hint of the yellow seen across the catwalks, but in much smaller details, such as the tiny floral prints that Erdem is becoming known for.

Its pretty and ladylike, all things lace but with darker colours, without simply sticking to the usual black option.

On top of the florals use of feathers added to the texture- both underneath sheer fabrics and on top.

London Fashion Week- Day 3

Sunday 17th
Topshop Unique

The nineties seem to be a huge trend right now, it feels so odd to see it as a trend when i grew up then, i guess it must feel the same to my mum when 80's fashion is popular again.

The colour palette was a bit odd, a mixture so dark red and black, with the pale blue and pink pastel tones. There was also a huge range of texture, fur, to felt and even pvc and leather materials.

Lots of oversized jackets appeared to be the main focus, shrouding the garments underneath.

Mary Katranzou

Wow. I love the prints involved tin this collection. A mixture of cherry blossoms and city spaces create a oriental theme. The overlapping shapes and folds also reminded me or origami.

The digital prints worked well both on the thick base materials and the chiffon style silks over-laying.

Overall the collection while the materials looked quite stiff, it was quite sensual and the prints were stunning.

Matthew Williamson

Matthew Williamson here does what he does best, injects colour and print into fashion and livens up the catwalk. Wether it is summer or winter he does not fail to bring light and warmth.

More mustard yellow mixed with warm blues and the dip dye and striped prints we know to expect from the designer. The blue hues kept it cool and prevented the yellows form looking too summery.

"It was really about using light and energy to bring something else to monochrome and grey and black,"
"I was inspired by the Northern lights and the toxic colours like those acid greens, that shaft of metallic colour."

London Fashion Week- Day 2

Saturday 16th Feb

Orla Kiely

I love this range, so girly and feminine but very lady like. Orla Kiely definitely has a certain look to her designs, and her pieces are timeless, you do not need to buy a whole new wardrobe every season, all her pieces are interchangeable. the shift dress above is great for day or dressed up with heel for the evening as a cool chic outfit.

John Rocha

John Rocha has been experimenting a bit more recently with colour and making more of a name for himself, whereas previously i felt he had become a bit of a shrinking violet. Last season saw and injection of colour and i was pleased to see that his season we still have the flashes of colour despite it being for Autumn Winter, why not still use bright colours. He has teamed bright orange with earthy tree like greens, one of the dresses actually looking like a tree!

The pieces were very textural and and voluptuous, i was pleasantly surprised by these beautiful garments.

House of Holland

House of Holland always seems to exude youthfulness.

This range was full of crazy 70's inspired prints, and suits which was a direct contrast to a lot of the girly dresses and ladylike chic from the other designers. The collection was very fun and certainly drew attention to itself, but while the prints were mad and young, the actual silhouettes were a little more grown up than we are used to from the brand.

Rihanna for River Island

I wasn't over-thrilled with Rihanna's first collection, but then again  am not a huge fan of her own style. i just found the collection was a bit mix matched and although i know she is working for river island, i felt like it looked like a random assortment of clothes from a high street stores, and when i buy from a celebrity collaboration, i want to feel special and i want to feel like it is limited edition. This to me didn't do it. The pictures i have chosen are my favourite pieces, i loved the daisy print dress with the dipped hem, but feel it is a little dated and wasn't necessarily appropriate for Autumn Winter. However i know a lot of people loved the range, so hopefully she will do well with it and maybe do future collections with the brand
