More on nails

My previous post showed easy nail art, which was quite festive as it was similar to candy canes. However if you want your nails to look even more like candy canes, i recommend this technique- use nail striping tape.  I bought a pack of 10 colours, on eBay for about a pound. There are lots of different ways to use it, either place it on top of tacky nail varnish, as decoration, then seal with layer of clear varnish, for a foil decorative effect. Or as shown here, use it to section off part of the nails.

(Photo not mine! Camera was packed at the time!)

To create this candy cane effect i painted a plain white base. I then cut strands of the striping tape and sectioned off parts of the nail by placing the tape diagnoally on the nail to form the stripes. Then i used a red glitter ( i recommend Barry M as it is super hard-wearing! But be warned its a bit of a pain to take off!) to fill in the stripes. Let it dry then peel the old tape off. This leaves you with red and white diagonal stripes with perfect clean lines.

Magnetise!

So on top of my other varnishes i bought a few weeks ago, i also bought a magnetic one! I went through the whole crackle phase so i thought this was my next step!
I chose Barry M as usually their varnishes are quite good, plus they are very cheap so if i don't like it i have lost nothing!

I chose the burgundy colour, they current colours are all very dark and this was the brightest and nest colour. The lids pop off, as they have the magnet on them, so in theory if u don't like the pattern on the one you pick up, you could swap the magnet with another one in the shop (sneaky sneaky) as it is the magnet on the lid that determines the pattern you get!

So i chose burgundy with a striped pattern

Now this is very important
IGNORE the instructions on the bottle
I did what the instructions said 5 times and tbh the pattern came out very faint, and only in one corner. I was appalled

However i read a few reviews and was told to do it a different way
Paint a thin layer as a base coat to make sure you get enough colour. Make sure this is 100% dry. This varnish takes a while to dry by the way:S
Then paint a VERY thick coat. so very thick that you think it won't dry. (It will now take forever to dry!) Then hold the magnet over the nail. it says for 5 secs, i would do it for at least 20
The lid has a little lip on it by the way to prevent you holding the magnet too close to your nail, i find resting this on the cuticle to be good as it keeps it ready and stops smudging!

You have to do this for every individual nail, so don't paint them all then go back with the magnet, it will have dried slightly, you need to do it when the nail is very wet! With that taken into consideration and the drying time, this will take a long time! However look at the results

I love this one as it reminds me of a candy cane, very topical! As far as the product goes, theres a few glitches, it would be better if you didn't have to do such thick layers! And if it was faster drying, and if the colours available were a bit better!!!! However it is a cool effect, with nail art being huge and some of us not being so neat with a tiny nail art pen, its a great way of have party ready nail art. I don't know how other brands compare but i have heard that the 17 version is also good:)

Is anyone else a fan of the magnetic varnishes?

Kate Spade

How cute are these bags!!!! These clutch bags by Kate Spade are created to look like books- specifically the classics. these are my favourite books as well.

I have wanted to add to my book collection- i have an e-book but i love reading off pages too. However the standard penguin print of these books is horrible, thin pages and a bright green cover!!!!! Although, recently they have created a new range, the same books but wit a vintage fabric cover- but they are a bit more pricey! But they will look fabulous on my shelves... i guess i need to do some saving up!

Anyway back to these bags.. also a bit pricey but i would happily buy the whole collection if i had the money! Check out the Kate Spade website, their other bags are gorgeous too- i have always been a fan of the brand:)

Cassadee Pope voice winner

So the American show The Voice has been really popular in the UK,  focusing more on talent than our usual show the Xfactor. However our series ended a while ago, while the American series has only just finished. However, i was qute annoyed by the result of the latest series. The winner was announced as Cassadee Pope. Cassadee Pope.. to those that do not already know, was the lead singer of popular band Hey Monday. If you havent heard of them, they are a bit like Paramore, female singer, male band members.... but just less good. She also had a solo career, and is STILL currently signed to a record label.

To to put this bluntly, she joined a TV show which is about winnign a record deal, for people with genuine singing talent not interested in just fame. Yet she has already had a record deal with her band, and her own solo one. i just don't understand it, why would she need to use TV to get a deal when she already has one? It seems unfair to those other talented people who needed that break. To me it jsut seems like she was using it to raise her publicity. What do you think? Am i just being cynical?

Rihanna for River Island!

Now I have no real images for you yet.... but Rihanna has confirmed that she is collaborating with River Island, for a new range which is available from Spring 2013.

Speaking of the influences of the range she said "I find London really inspiring, and River Island love to have fun with their clothes."

Usually known for wearing very little in the way of clothing, and what she does wear being quite provocative.. I had mixed feelings. However she has apparently said that the range will show her more classy side... we will see!

As it is not out till June I have no images of the types of garments.. apart from one.

Rihanna tweeted this as a sneak preview, tweeting during the campaign photo shoot. Check out her choice in models, including huge star, british model. Jourdan Dunn

What do you think we can expect from this range? Do you think it will be a success? Or a total flop?

Yet another H+M collaboration...

H+M are currently collaborating with Maison Margiela. Excuse the late post, i like to post BEFORE the collaboration starts but i have been so busy!I didnt want this one to slip under the radar however, so here are some photos of the types of garments included in the range.

Previous collaborations have been very successful! These have included Versace, Matthew Williamson and Jimmy Choo.

Maison Margiela is one of the most influential fashion houses of the past three decades.

This is from an article in The Guardian, showing just how popular the range was, and how excited people were for the collaboration. "Two long queues stretching down Regent Street on either side of the flagship H+M store on Thursday morning offer the telltale sign that their latest designer collaboration is about to go on sale. There are people standing in line who have been there since 10.30pm the night before and they are all set to buy into the avant garde world of Maison Martin Margiela, a label specialising in rather unconventional clothes. On sale are jackets with odd pointy shoulders, fabrics used inside out, coats and jeans cut in gargantuan oversized proportions. It is not for the uninitiated."

“We are very happy to present MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA pieces with H+M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H+M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all” says Masion Martin Margiela.

Has anyone bought anything from the collaboration? What do you think about it?

Romeo romeo.....

So the latest Beckham to make a name for himself...is middle son Romeo Beckham. He's been photographed many times walking with his famous parents,  but these photos are very different!
Hes the new (younger) face for Burberry Spring/ Summer 2013 .

Check out his cheeky grin! I love these photos, while the two older models look like waxworks he brings light to the photos.
Supposedly he was hand picked by Christopher Bailey himself.
Personally i love the photos, although they have caused lots of controversy with people saying that he shouldn't be pushed into the limelight, that it could be damaging to him. What do you think?

Christmas Jumpers

So for some unknown reason, Christmas jumpers have come into fashion in a big way this year! I have had one for years, my grandmother was a huge fan of knitting, she used to make me lots of toys , such as Wallace and Gromit toys, and Jemima puddle duck:) I wish i still had them to post photos.

So I have got a particularly garish Christmas jumper, bright red with snowmen and Christmas trees. My grandmother made them for all the family when i was little, so as a bossy child i insisted i had one too. She wasn't very good at sizing so despite getting one when i was about seven..... it fits me perfectly now!

But the high street is full of christmas jumpers this year! some more christmassy some a little bit more conservative. These are a few of my favourites.

Yes i know this one is a mens jumper.... but sometimes mens clothing is so much nicer than females!

I will post an Outfit Of The Day soon of me in my Christmas jumper:) Does anyone else have one they are really proud of? Message me!

NEW TOYS:)

So i bought some new goodies!!!!
I decided to treat myself to new nail varnishes- not that i dont already have millions!
rimmel had 3 for 2 so of course i couldn't just buy one!
I bought 2 from the new metallic range which i wanted to share. I highly recommend these, they look amazing on although they do take about 3 coats as they are quite thin (however lots of thin coats always lasts longer than one or two thick ones!)
I did alternate nails so i could show both of them, and i also did a bit of detailing with my third nail varnish- a glitter one from Rimmel. This was really impressive, here i have just added a little glitter at the cuticle, however if you use 2 or 3 layers it is glittery enough to wear solo- without another colour underneath. usually glitters are so watery and they have to have a base coat. word of warning though- its a nightmare to get off, you really have to soak those cotton balls in nail varnish remover! but i imagine it would work well as a topcoat then:)
let me know what you think
